To travel Hesperos is to cross a mosaic of six distinct states, each forged by the biomes they inhabit and the gods they serve. On this island, survival and spirituality are inseparable; the terrain dictates how a people live, while their faith dictates why.
The Central Isle serves as the vital agricultural heart of Hesperos, a 3,400K sq km landmass responsible for the survival of 4.4 million people. While the outer ring provides protein through meat and fish, this island is the sole source of high-yield grain and essential nutrients for the entire civilization.
The Workforce: A small, specialized population of 50,000 "Seeds" manages the island.
The Agricultural Engine: These River-type specialists maintain a massive network of magical irrigation canals to support their crops.
The Production: They perform 8-hour rituals of Plant Growth across the islandβs acreage, doubling the natural output of grain and vegetables.
The Output: This system generates nearly 12,000 tons of food weekly to meet the demands of the outer ring.
Two months ago, the Kingdom of Midgia (the Lorn) attempted to seize the island to control the ring's calorie supply. The invasion resulted in a total strategic deadlock:
The Capture of the Edge: Midgian forces successfully seized the western coastal area and the primary deep-water ports.
The Internal Resistance: The Seeds retreated into the deep interior, using their magic to manipulate the landscape and flood access paths, preventing Midgian soldiers from seizing the farms or the mages themselves.
The Obsolete Blockade: Midgia assumed that holding the southern docks would force a surrender, but they overlooked the island's circular coastline.
The other four states (Aberia, Bibar, Tiver, and Nuled) responded to the invasion by bypassing Midgia entirely and isolating them economically:
Maritime Bypassing: The Mires and Rimes (Naval types) began sailing to the northern and eastern edges of the island, establishing secret loading zones to continue trading directly with the Seeds.
The Protein Embargo: The alliance has completely cut off the flow of meat, fish, and salt to Midgia.
Midgian Attrition: While Midgian soldiers on the island's edge have plenty of bread, their home population of 1 million is suffering from severe protein and salt deficiencies.
Logistical Failure: Midgia is currently paying the massive cost of a military occupation to guard empty ports, as the world's actual trade has moved to different shores.
Population: 855,000.
Biome: The Cold Desert; rocky shale and steep northern cliffs.
Primary Exports: Salt, furs, and meat, metal ore.
Specialized Travel: Great-Ram Caravans.
Road & Isle Role: They act as the "Long-Haulers" for the north; they collect grain from the Central Isle's northern coves and transport it across the desert to Tiver, as Tiver is the furthest from the island's usable trade points.
Population: 587,000.
Biome: The Glacier; shifting ice and sub-zero winds.
Primary Exports: Whale oil, blubber, and high-calorie fats.
Specialized Travel: Frost-Skiffs.
Road & Isle Role: They maintain the eastern arc of the Great Road. Their skiffs are vital for bridging frozen road gaps, allowing the meat from the south and salt from the north to meet in the east while avoiding the western conflict.
Population: 1.2 million.
Biome: The Tundra; frozen, uneven permafrost.
Primary Exports: Red meat, leather, and furs.
Specialized Travel: Sled-Dog Legions.
Road & Isle Role: They control the southern stretch of the Great Road. They have completely cut off the flow of meat and furs to their neighbor, Midgia, essentially blockading the southern entrance to the Lorn's territory.
Population: 1 million.
Biome: The Taiga; dense, acidic forests.
Primary Exports: Historically high-end textiles, tools and administrative services.
Specialized Travel: Canopy Gryphons.
Road & Isle Role: They hold the southwest section of the Great Road and the southern "edge" of the Central Isle. However, because they are providing nothing to their neighbors and receiving nothing in return, their section of the road is a desolate "dead zone".
Population: 714,000.
Biome: The Wetland; deep mud and rising tides.
Primary Exports: Shellfish, oils, and silt-minerals.
Specialized Travel: Wave-Slippers.
Road & Isle Role: They maintain the western portion of the Great Road. As they are the furthest from the island, they rely on Bibar's rams for grain delivery. They provide zero resources to Midgia to their south, completing the western half of the stranglehold.
